Texas Tax Code §11.22 exempts part of a disabled veteran's property value based on VA disability rating: 10–29% → $5,000; 30–49% → $7,500; 50–69% → $10,000; 70–99% → $12,000. A surviving spouse of a service member who died on active duty may qualify for a $5,000 exemption.
100% Disabled Veteran Total Property Tax Exemption
Total exemption — $0 property tax on your homestead
Texas Tax Code §11.131 gives a total exemption from property taxes on the residence homestead of a veteran rated 100% disabled OR individually unemployable (TDIU) by the VA. A qualifying surviving spouse can keep the exemption. This can save thousands of dollars every year.
