Alaska Veteran Benefits
Veteran and military benefits available in Alaska: property-tax exemptions, tuition waivers, license and park-fee waivers, and more — each verified from an official Alaska source.
Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption
First $150,000 of assessed value exempt
Alaska exempts the first $150,000 of assessed value on the primary residence of a resident veteran whose service-connected disability is rated 50% or more. (Municipalities administer property tax, so confirm local application details.)
Free Permanent Hunting/Fishing/Trapping License
Free lifetime license; no king salmon or waterfowl stamp
Alaska gives resident disabled veterans (50%+ service-connected) a complimentary permanent ID card to hunt, sport fish, or trap. Holders don't need a king salmon stamp to fish for king salmon or a state waterfowl conservation stamp to hunt waterfowl.
Veterans' Employment Preference
5% (10% if disabled/POW) added to state scores
Alaska adds 5% of total points for eligible veterans and National Guard members, and 10% for disabled veterans and former prisoners of war, when scoring applicants for State of Alaska jobs.
University of Alaska Tuition Waiver
Tuition/fee waivers for survivors & dependents
Surviving spouses and dependents of deceased veterans may qualify for undergraduate tuition and fee waivers at University of Alaska institutions, and veterans may qualify for resident tuition.
Free State Park Camping Pass (Disabled Veterans)
Free 2-year state park camping pass
Alaska offers disabled veterans a free State Park Camping Pass, valid for two years in developed Alaska state park campgrounds.
