California Veteran Benefits

Veteran and military benefits available in California: property-tax exemptions, tuition waivers, license and park-fee waivers, and more — each verified from an official California source.

Disabled Veterans' Property Tax Exemption

$100,000+ off your home's value (more for low-income)

California reduces the taxable value of a 100%-disabled (or unemployable-rated) veteran's principal residence. There are two tiers: a Basic exemption (statutory floor $100,000) and a Low-Income exemption (floor $150,000). The actual amounts are adjusted upward for inflation every year, so they're now well above those floors.

Veterans' Property Tax Exemption ($4,000)

$4,000 off assessed value for veterans with limited property

Separate from the disabled-veteran exemption, California's basic Veterans' Exemption reduces assessed value by up to $4,000 for a qualified veteran who owns limited property. Most homeowners get more from the Homeowners' Exemption, so this mainly helps veterans who don't qualify for that.
