Traumatic SGLI (TSGLI)

Lump-sum payment of $25,000 to $100,000 for severe traumatic injuries like limb loss, blindness, severe burns, or extended hospitalization.

Who qualifies: Active duty, National Guard.

Traumatic Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (TSGLI) provides a one-time payment for serious traumatic injuries:

Covered Traumatic Losses:
• Total and permanent loss of sight, hearing, or speech
• Loss of hand or foot (or functional equivalent)
• Loss of thumb and index finger on same hand
• Quadriplegia, paraplegia, hemiplegia
• Third-degree burns over 30%+ of body or face
• Hospitalization in a Trauma Center or ICU for 15+ consecutive days
• Coma from traumatic injury lasting 15+ consecutive days
• Traumatic brain injury (TBI) with specific functional loss

Payments:
• $25,000 to $100,000 depending on severity
• Paid within 45 days of approved claim
• Tax-free
• Separate from SGLI death benefit

Eligibility:
• Must have SGLI coverage at time of injury
• Injury must occur on or after October 7, 2001
• Applies both in and out of combat zone

Automatic: all SGLI-covered members are automatically covered for TSGLI ($1/month premium included in SGLI premium).
