SGLI — Servicemembers Group Life Insurance
Up to $500,000 life insurance coverage for about $26/month (rate cut took effect July 1, 2025).
Who qualifies: Active duty, National Guard.
SGLI is low-cost group life insurance for active duty service members and qualifying Guard/Reserve members.
• Coverage up to $500,000 (in $50,000 increments)
• Premium rate: 5 cents per $1,000/month = $25/month for $500,000 coverage (reduced from 6 cents effective July 1, 2025)
• Plus $1/month for TSGLI (traumatic injury protection) = $26/month total at max coverage
• Automatic enrollment (must opt out if not desired)
• Guard/Reserve: covered during drills and deployments
TSGLI (Traumatic Injury Protection) provides lump-sum payments ($25K—$100K) for severe traumatic injuries.
