Veteran ID Card (VIC)

A free, official photo ID from the VA that proves your veteran status for discounts — so you don't have to carry your DD-214.

Who qualifies: Veterans.

**What It Is**
The Veteran ID Card (VIC) is a free, wallet-sized photo ID issued by the VA. It provides proof of military service so you can claim veteran discounts at restaurants, hotels, and stores without carrying your DD-214.

**Cost**
Free. The VA does not charge for the VIC.

**Who Qualifies**
Veterans who served on active duty, in the Reserves, or in the National Guard (including the Coast Guard) with an honorable or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. Other-than-honorable, bad conduct, and dishonorable discharges do not qualify.

**What You'll Need**
• Social Security number
• A scanned copy of your DD214, DD256, DD257, PHS1867, or NGB22
• A current, valid government-issued photo ID
• A digital color photo from the shoulders up

**How to Apply**
Apply online at va.gov/records/get-veteran-id-cards/vic/ after signing in with an ID.me account. Note the VIC is for discount/proof-of-service use — it is not a substitute for a Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) or a military retiree/dependent ID.
