Death Gratuity

$100,000 one-time tax-free payment to survivors of service members who die while on active duty.

Who qualifies: Survivors & family members.

The Death Gratuity is a lump-sum payment made to the designated beneficiary(ies) of a service member who dies:

• While on active duty
• During the 120-day period after release from active duty (in certain circumstances)

• Amount: $100,000 – completely tax-free
• Paid within 24 hours of notification
• Designated beneficiaries can include spouse, children, parents, siblings, or others designated by the service member
