Space-Available (Space-A) Travel
Fly free or at very low cost on military aircraft worldwide on a standby basis. Retirees and disabled veterans (100%) eligible.
Who qualifies: Active duty, Veterans, National Guard.
Space-Available (Space-A) travel allows eligible military personnel to fly on military aircraft at little or no cost on a standby basis:
Eligibility Categories (highest to lowest priority):
• Cat I: Emergency leave passengers
• Cat II: Environmental and morale leave (deployed member's dependents)
• Cat III: Ordinary leave – active duty
• Cat IV: Unaccompanied dependents on command-sponsored orders
• Cat V: Permissive TDY and students
• Cat VI: Retired military (including disabled 100% veterans), Medal of Honor recipients
Category VI (Retirees & 100% Disabled Veterans):
• No cost except meals
• Space-A within CONUS and OCONUS
• Must have valid military ID (retiree card or VA-issued 100% disabled card)
How it works:
• Show up at a military terminal (AMC terminals at Air Force bases)
• Sign up on the Space-A register (can sign up 60 days in advance)
• Wait for available seats after all higher-priority passengers board
• Destinations depend on scheduled military missions – not commercial routes
