Burial Allowance
VA burial allowance up to $2,000+ for service-connected death; smaller allowance for non-service-connected deaths.
Who qualifies: Veterans, Survivors & family members.
The VA provides burial allowances to help offset funeral costs:
• Service-connected death: up to $2,000+ for burial and funeral expenses
• Non-service-connected death: $948 for burial, $948 for plot/interment (if not buried in a national cemetery)
• Veterans receiving VA pension or compensation at time of death: burial allowance available regardless of cause of death
2026 expansion: extended burial benefits for veterans discharged from VA hospice care to home hospice who pass away (July 2025—Oct 2026).
