Terminal Leave

Decide whether to take terminal leave or sell it back when you separate or retire. This tool compares the value of using your leave days versus selling them, so you can see which nets you more.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to take terminal leave or sell it?

Taking terminal leave usually nets more, because you keep drawing full pay plus BAH and BAS while on leave. Selling leave pays base pay only, is taxed, and is capped at 60 days over your career.

How many leave days can I sell back?

You can sell back a lifetime maximum of 60 days of leave, and only base pay is paid for each day sold — no BAH or BAS.
