How much does SBP cost?
The standard spouse SBP premium is 6.5% of your elected base amount, taken pre-tax from your retired pay. Premiums stop once you’ve paid for 30 years and reached age 70 (“paid-up”).
How much does SBP pay a survivor?
SBP pays your surviving spouse 55% of your elected base amount as a lifetime, inflation-adjusted annuity. The old SBP–DIC offset has been eliminated, so survivors can receive full SBP and full VA DIC.
