Frequently asked questions
How is military retirement pay calculated?
Monthly pension = your multiplier × your High-3 (the average of your highest-36-months of basic pay). The multiplier is 2.5% per year of service under High-3 and 2.0% per year under BRS.
What’s the difference between High-3 and BRS?
High-3 (for those who joined before 2018 or opted out) uses a 2.5%/year multiplier and no TSP match. BRS uses 2.0%/year plus government TSP matching and a mid-career continuation-pay bonus.
