It varies by retailer, but most military discounts are open to active-duty members, National Guard and Reserve members, retirees, and veterans — and many also include spouses and dependents. Some offers are everyday; others run only around Veterans Day, Memorial Day, or the Fourth of July.
How verification services work
Rather than each store checking IDs, most use a free digital service — usually ID.me or GovX ID. You create an account once and prove your status (with a military ID, DD-214, or DoD records). After that, at checkout you simply log in and the discount is applied — no need to re-prove yourself at every store. Some retailers, like Michaels or Tractor Supply, sync your verified status to their own rewards account.
